Atlanta Farmers Market

Last Saturday, we woke up early and ventured out to the Atlanta Farmers Market (off the Forest Park exit, for any Atlantans wondering). We’ve been to a couple of farmers markets since we moved (see this post for details), but they are nothing like this one.

First off, the AFM is 150 acres, and open 24/7. The 18+ open sheds are mostly outdoors, and you can drive up and down the aisles until you find a place you want to stop. There are 2 rows worth of Georgia Farmers, 1 seasonal row (for peaches, pumpkins, Christmas trees, and the like) and the other rows are from all over.

I picked what looked to me like the prettiest place to stop (yes that’s how I judge things).

The cutest tiny pepper plant ever.

Also a baby aloe plant (it seems I enjoy mini-plants).

FRUIT.

As always, I took pictures of things that made no sense to me. These are tomatillos.

And here’s some cactus, sans pokies. (Edit: Thomas informed me that these are called Nopale).

These are muscadine grapes. They look like cherries sort of.

Have you ever seen carrots like these? Specifically, second row, first carrot on the right. Creepy…

We bought some of these delightful spring onions.

Here is Thomas showcasing our plumbs. We got 3 tomatoes, 3 plumbs, and a bundle of spring onions for $1.50!

The car was moving when I took this picture, but this booth was decorated with pinatas etc. and looked really fun and festive.

AFM also has a garden area complete with all kinds of plants, pottery, and outdoor decor. This pot was my favorite.

I’ve also become obsessed with succulents. I’m looking for a cute little pot for my desk.

After lots of looking, we headed to to the on-site restaurant for breakfast. Above is my meal – the breakfast sampler with hashbrowns. It was SO good.

Thomas had fried pork chops with grits. We were really impressed with the food, and learned that lots of the veggies come from the farmers market itself.

After reenergizing, we visited the wholesale store. It’s basically like a Sam’s Club or Costco, with no membership fee. Here’s a huge pallet of Mexican Coke.

Thomas found this crazy sucker/microphone.

And I discovered these STYLISH STYLISH STYLISH emergency ponchos.

One of my favorite things – Fancy Henny! We call Henry ‘Henny’, so I was pretty tempted by these chicks. Also, I love gum.

This baby bottle contained like 30 mini-bottles. Super weird.

I know things got a bit crazy towards the end there, BUT I would very much suggest that you visit the Atlanta Farmers Market if you ever have the chance. The prices are very reasonable, the food at the restaurant is delicious, and the woman in the visitors center is THE sweetest.
